Guatemala Guatemalan Adoptions

                         *** Temporarily On Hold ***

Guatemala is one of Central America’s most fascinating countries with its Mayan ruins, active volcanoes, jungles and natural wonders. It is the westernmost country in Central America, bordering on Mexico to the north and west, Belize to the northeast, Honduras and El Salvador to the east. Guatemala remains fairly inexpensive for most travelers.

Guatemala has a population of 1.39 million people with 44% of them of Mayan descent and 56% of Mestizo/Ladino descent. The country is democratic and their language is Spanish. Guatemala has a strong religious culture with the main religions being Roman Catholic, Pentecostal and Mayan-Catholic fusion. The major industries are coffee, sugar, bananas, textiles and clothing, petroleum, metals, rubber, flowers and of course, tourism.

Children Available
Guatemala has many beautiful children waiting for forever families. The children range from age 3 months to 5 years. Typically the children will be Hispanic looking, meaning light to medium brown skin with dark eyes and brown or black hair.

All the children receive the regular well-baby check ups and are tested for HIV, Hepatitis B and other diseases. Pictures and medical reports are available upon referral.

It is possible to adopt more than one child at a time.

All the children are well cared for in private foster care or group homes.

Family Requirements
• Guatemala is fairly liberal as to who may adopt.
• Single women (25 years of age & older)
• Married couples (with or without children already in the home)
• Previous divorces are accepted.
• One parent must be a United States citizen.
• The age limit is flexible, typically 24-55 years of age. Applicants 50 and older may have to be more flexible on the children referred, but this is not a set rule. All families must meet the financial and health requirements.

Travel
Guatemala is a one-trip program. Only one parent * is required to travel for a trip of about 3-5 days duration. In country travel costs are quite modest.

* Adopt Abroad, Inc. does not use escorts for any of our adoption programs. We have extensive backgrounds in family therapy and strongly believe this is a parental responsibility, and helps avoid adoption disruption later on.
